Registered trustee trainers with The Pensions Board – press release

Attain is delighted to announce that we are registered trustee trainers with The Pensions Board.

Since 1 February 2010, it has become compulsory for all pension scheme trustees to undertake training at least every two years. Attain have designed a one day comprehensive trustee training programme. This course is intended to be practical, up to date and to equip trustees of Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution pension schemes with the information and knowledge needed to manage their pension scheme.

The training course is open to trustees of any scheme and at all levels. Attain’s approach to trustee training:

  1. The training is tailored to be specific about either a DC or DB scheme, depending on the trustee audience.
  2. Handout material covers all the slides with additional notes and information.
  3. The training is split into topics for ease of learning:
  • Pensions - the basics
  • Legal duties and responsibilities
  • About the scheme - the general rules
  • About the scheme - the maximum benefits
  • Running a scheme - your role as trustee
  • Scheme financing - for a DB or a DC scheme (as appropriate )
  • Scheme investment - the main requirements
  • Investing a scheme’s assets - for a DB or a DC (as appropriate )
  • Investment management - what to consider
  • Keeping records and accounts - administration requirements and financials
  • Communicating with members - information to be provided
  • When things go wrong - disputes and non-compliance

The training is aimed at new trustees and experienced trustees.

Attain has previously worked in conjunction with The Pensions Board on providing the content for their new interactive e-learning system for pension scheme trustees.
